Ink Review: Sheaffer Skrip Red

Red
Sheaffer Pen Co. 'Skrip'

Sheaffer Skrip inks were originally distributed in this dip well bottle in the 1930's and the 'Skrip' brand inks are still sold today. I prefer using the vintage bottle because of it's shape and enjoy using Skrip red ink for it's colour and ease of cleaning.

The colour of Sheaffer Red is what I would call a true red, there are no hues or tones that lead me to believe otherwise. I measure all reds against it. It has a moderate amount of shading and I find the flow to be on the dry side which allows me to get a great colour variation with pens that flex. The dry time is very quick and consistent on both papers great for people writing with their left hand. Sheaffer Skrip Red shows no signs of feathering or bleed through. The ink is not water resistant and ink is removed from the page with water. Considering red inks are typically the hardest ink to clean, this one easy to clean from pens and as you can see from the test plate, small traces are left on the plate with no staining whatsoever.

Sheaffer Skrip inks are available in a variety of 8 colours and is my go-to ink when I am looking for a red for Xmas / Valentines cards as well as marking up drawings. This red is well behaved, dries really fast, and easily cleaned from pens. I have no issues using it in any of my favourite pens.
