Ink Review: Mystery Black by Mont Blanc

Mystery Black
Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc fountain pen inks are said to be well behaved and low maintenance. To add, the inkwell has a unique stiletto shape to it which creates a smaller reservoir to fill when ink levels are low. Despite the initial impression I had of this luxury brand I was not disappointed in what I saw from the test results.

Mystery Black has a colour spectrum that ranges from a slate grey to a deep black. Shading was subtle and there was a red sheen noticeable on the Hilroy paper. The ink dries relatively fast and the ink flow is pretty average. There were no signs of feathering or bleed through just some ghosting on cheap paper. Water completely removes the ink from paper which is probably why it is so easy to clean, I had a difficult time finding traces of ink on the test plate after the flush.

Mont Blanc Mystery Black ink is a deep black offering a sheen characteristic. It is a quality ink at an affordable price point that behaves and performs well on all papers not to mention easy to clean. I have no issues loading it into any one of my pens.
