Ink Review: Blue by Pilot

Blue
Pilot

Not fan of blue inks but this one came included with a Pilot custom 823 fountain pen gift box. The bottle is 70 mL with a filling cone similar to that of Sailor ink bottles with the exception that this inkwell is deep enough to submerge larger size nibs. Pilot Blue is a bright blue ink that jumps off the page and I was pleasantly surprised by how it performed.

Pilot Blue test plate after 3 mL of water.
Pilot Blue ranges from a colour that is a deep sky blue to ultramarine. Shading is subtle with signs of a sheen towards the edges of heavy linework. The ink dries exceptionally fast and the ink flow is regular. There was no feathering or bleed through just some ghosting on cheap paper. The ink exhibited a resistance to water on paper and left a residual mark on the test plate when flushed. All traces of ink where removed with a little soap.

This blue ink from Pilot is a great colour, has a functional bottle with a larger capacity for ink, and performs well. It dries super fast which is idea for quick note taking or lefties and is resistant to water. I am not certain as to how one would get a bottle without purchasing a Pilot custom 823 but if you are looking to purchase this pen, Pilot Blue ink sweetens the deal. I recommend a soapy water flush to remove all traces of ink from your pens and do it with all mine.
